The Challenge
The client had a legacy fitness app with a 2.1-star rating and 68% 30-day churn. Users were dropping off because the onboarding was too long, data visualisations were unreadable, and the app felt slow on older devices.
The Solution
We rebuilt the product from the ground up in React Native with a ruthless focus on performance and information hierarchy. Onboarding was cut from 12 steps to 3. Every screen was stress-tested on iPhone SE hardware. The goal-tracking dashboard was redesigned around a single, glanceable number.
The Result
Three months post-launch, day-30 retention climbed from 18% to 79%. The app hit a 4.9-star average from over 2,400 ratings and was featured in the App Store's Health & Fitness category. Revenue from premium subscriptions grew 4.2× in the first quarter.
How we built it.
Two weeks of user interviews, session recordings, and App Store review mining to map every friction point in the old product.
High-fidelity prototypes tested with 40 real users across three rounds of iteration. Every micro-interaction validated before a line of code was written.
6-week development sprint in React Native. Shared codebase for iOS and Android with platform-native feel through careful use of native modules.
Phased rollout: 10% → 50% → 100% over 3 weeks. A/B testing on the paywall lifted conversion by 22% before full release.
