The Challenge
Velour needed a multi-vendor marketplace that felt like a high-end editorial magazine, not a cluttered directory. The challenge was combining the discovery experience of a fashion publication with the conversion mechanics of a modern e-commerce platform.
The Solution
We built a custom marketplace on Next.js with Prisma and Postgres for the data layer, Stripe Connect for split payments to designers, and Algolia for faceted search. The editorial homepage is managed through a headless CMS with full layout control, no templates.
The Result
Within six months of launch, 8,000+ independent designers had onboarded to the platform. Conversion rate from browse to purchase was 89% above the fashion e-commerce benchmark. Average order value was €340, 2.4× the client's projections.
How we built it.
Defining the dual user model (designers and shoppers) and designing flows for both simultaneously, including the designer onboarding and storefront customisation tools.
A bespoke CMS layout engine allowing the editorial team to compose homepage stories using modular blocks. No two issues look the same.
Stripe Connect for multi-party payouts. Real-time inventory sync. Algolia-powered search with visual filters. Cart and checkout rebuilt for speed.
Deployed on Vercel with edge caching on product and collection pages. Handles 50K daily visitors with sub-200ms response times across Europe.
